"I want to do that!" With all the thought and insight that a 13 year old could muster, those were the words middle school aged Matthew DeYoung said that started his journey into photography. Matthew was looking at old negatives and photos his dad had taken of his drag racing adventures and some nature shots. Still holding on to that first love to this day Matthew's passion is capturing the excitement of the track, the open road, the cars that drive them past and present along with nature in the still frame of a camera lens and making it come alive to the viewer.
As Matthew has grown in talent and intellect since then he has also seen his dream evolve into making a difference with his craft. Over the course of his career Matthew has developed a habit of taking action. When asked by peers about how he has reached recent accomplishments or how he learned what he knows, his advice is always the same.
“Just get out there and do it. Go outside. Explore. Try something new and if it doesn’t work try something else. Find the things you love and spend time doing them.”
Matthew studied Photography at Arizona State University, but like all good artists, has never stopped learning and perfecting his art. His projects include: Illumination, Exploring Light, Left Behind, Operation: Capture Space, Through the Lens and America.
